I sat outside my house this last Saturday receiving fresh air from nature, I saw a vendor passing bye then I decide to get a news paper from him and what I saw gave me a great concern. The headline reads ‘University undergraduate caught with two fresh human heads’. My heart melted like an ice cream and my marrow receive the biggest shock ever…I was so deep in thought of what could have caused this, I asked too many questions which I later realised they were all rhetorical.
I started wondering what life is turning to and what on earth could have pushed this young handsome looking boy into such an evil act. Still in In my state of being flabbergasted, I considered some values and philosophies of life and juxtaposed them with situation of things happening within the human race. Too many question I asked myself about what is the future of the Nigerian youth and what could be the cause of the recession in the moral standard of our youths.
The response I got was that the main cause of the moral decadence of the youth is because of the epileptic nature of the Nigerian economy…well, in a way yes and in many ways I will say no. Yes in the sense that it is true that the economy is not helping situation but in the other way round to be factual, we need to know that no country in the world can completely satisfy the needs of its citizen. Our youth fall into the doom of destruction not just because d economy is bad but because many of them are so lazy to open their eyes to see opportunities and utilise them.
Our youth are so selfish, black minded and too anxious to get quick wealth without being ready to pay the required price which is hard work, they are too engrossed with the goodies of life forgetting the fact that fingers are not equal. They only look at the people better that them using luxury things of life, they do not consider many people they are better than. They never thought of the simple philosophy of life that says “enjoyment in life is a step, never try to climb when u are not close to d starecase”.
It is commonly said that when one is in a hurry, there is every possibility of not getting things done in the right manner. Naturally, it is everyone’s desire to be rich and get the best out of life but we must be ready to pay the dues. We all want to live in a big mansion and go around town with porch cars but there is rule…’’he who does not work must not eat’’.….Also, Proverbs 10:5 (New Living Translation) says “a wise youth harvests in the summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.”
Wealth or riches according to the dictionary is the accumulation of abundance of items but sincerely that is to the black and white paper. In the naturalness of life, the real meaning of riches is the value u attach to yourself. Bishop David Oyedepo (Shiloh 2009) in one of his teachings says “the riches of a man are not in what he has but in who he is and the values he has”. He further explained that whatever wealth u gather today might disappear tomorrow but if your riches are in you then u have no problem because the real you in you will always be able to gather another wealth. There is no doubt that struggle can take u to the top but if you do not have the required values to manage it, it will disappear one day.
Our youth should work towards adding values to themselves and also have it at the back of their mind that fingers are not equal, they should be conversant of the saying that life is about back and front. A man looking at the people at his front using porch cars and lives in mansions complaining to be like them should also look back to see the people who are struggling to be like him. Never allow other people’s riches push you to do things that will negatively affect your future.
I want the Nigerian youth to know that “it is not solely about where you stand but more about how u stand”. Nigeria is not bad because the country is in Nigeria but because of the poor state of mind and negative mentality that nothing works in the country. In more than we can ever imagine, it is good to know that our mind-set controls our life just as the Holy Bible say that “as a man thinketh in his heart so is he”. One of the greatest philosophers says “I will never fail because my mind never fails” Let us stand up for the challenges and keep flying the flag of “Nigeria o ni baje”. Lets open our eyes wide and maximise every opportunities that comes our way
My philosophy is that “life is what you make it to be”, you can never go through the wrong route and get to the right destination. Let’s work hard to play our own part then nature will play its own part too…Think front and back before u act and know that fingers are not equal.
Cheers!
